About UVSAR AID

An organization built for the moments that call for trained people.

We prevent, educate, respond, and stand by communities as the road to recovery begins.

Field experience, operational capacity, and a mission that goes beyond response.

The Association for Disaster Response – UVSAR AID is a non-governmental, non-political, and non-profit organization headquartered in Galați, with activities at local, national, and international levels. Its mission is based on an integrated approach to emergencies, in which prevention, education, and community preparedness are followed—when circumstances require—by direct response, humanitarian assistance, and recovery support. UVSAR AID brings together volunteers and specialists from complementary fields, united by the same commitment to life, safety, and solidarity. Through its work, the organization seeks to help build better-informed, better-prepared communities that can respond effectively when time, discipline, and competence make the difference.

Operational capacity

UVSAR AID’s operational capacity is built around structures and services developed to meet real community needs. The organization operates two first response points in Galați: one permanent point at the Alexandru Ioan Cuza Student Campus, in partnership with Dunărea de Jos University of Galați, and a second seasonal point at Dunărea Beach. The organization’s ambulance service has three medical transport ambulances and one emergency ambulance, while the DNID-UVSAR National Disaster Response Detachment brings together volunteer rescuers, nurses, physicians, divers, rope-access technicians, mountain rescuers, and other specialists. This multidisciplinary structure enables teams and resources to adapt to the specific requirements of each response operation, mission, or support activity.

Training and education

Response, however, is only one dimension of UVSAR AID’s work. A core part of the organization’s mission is dedicated to risk-prevention education, volunteer training, and building community response capacity. Through its team of instructors and trainers, the organization delivers courses, exercises, and practical activities in first aid, self-rescue, trauma response, and appropriate behavior during emergencies. At the same time, the administration, human resources, projects, assets, and external partnerships departments provide the institutional infrastructure required for coherent, sustainable growth. The educational and European projects under implementation, together with the development of Lifeline Academy, reflect the organization’s commitment to turning field experience into modern training tools accessible to volunteers, professionals, and communities.

Experience and cooperation

UVSAR AID’s experience has been strengthened through more than two thousand response operations and participation in challenging contexts, including natural disasters and conflict-affected areas. The organization’s teams took part in search and rescue operations after the earthquakes in Türkiye, as well as numerous humanitarian missions, assistance activities, and training sessions in Ukraine. Together with Dunărea de Jos University of Galați and World Vision Romania, UVSAR AID helped support more than eight thousand Ukrainian refugees with medical assistance, food, hygiene products, and other forms of aid tailored to identified needs. Today, UVSAR AID is an organization with proven experience and continuously developing capacity, seeking to expand its resources, expertise, and operational reach through institutional cooperation, strategic partnerships, and connections to national and international response networks.
